Many moms find themselves exhausted and caught up in the daily demands of their children and family.
Today, more than ever, moms are taking on more roles than ever before, and the pressure can sometimes become overwhelming.
After a while, it’s easy for moms to say they’ve lost their “identity”, when in reality, being a mother is the most generous job there is.
Children require constant care and attention, and there are only so many hours in the day.
As a result, mothers are often relegated to the bottom of their own list of priorities, and sometimes don’t even have time to look after their own personal needs.
After all, moms are vitally important, and they need to refocus on themselves.
For moms looking to take back control of their lives, we have a few tips to help them along the way.
1. Get back on your own list
One of the main reasons moms lose themselves in the first place is that they sort of stop putting themselves on the list. Life is busy and getting busier.
Motherhood is certainly non-stop. When a mom is completely absorbed in her duties as a mother, it’s easy to put yourself in the final position, then run out of time and energy long before you have time to meet your own needs.
Taking back control of your life means putting yourself back on the priority list. You’re a priority too, Mom.
2. Pay attention to your wants, not just your needs
Mothers often give up on their wants and barely meet their needs.
This is not a healthy viewpoint, and changing this is a key part of regaining control of your life.
Paying attention to your needs is certainly important, but those little extra things in your life that you simply want, the things that make you feel good, but aren’t totally necessary – pursue them again!
They’ve been missing from your list for far too long!
3. Keep learning and exploring
One of the best ways to regain control of your life is to keep learning.
At some point, when moms sink into the responsibilities of motherhood, they run out of time to explore the things that challenge their minds and make them grow and develop in stimulating ways.
To remedy this, you can take a course, learn a new language or skill, create a hobby or craft…
Anything that makes you happy and encourages you to push your limits.
4. Learn to say no
Many moms have been sacrificing themselves to please others for too long. Sometimes moms just have to say no.
No, you don’t have time to bake cookies for the soccer team. If you’re already too busy, you don’t need to take on another task.
This may seem like a new concept, Mom, but if you want to regain control of your life, you have to stop handing over every bit of it to others. It’s okay to say no.
5. Eliminate toxic people
We all have friends who are a little more emotionally demanding than others.
Of course, we all love them, but at some point it’s worth asking yourself whether you need every single person in your social circle.
If the basis of your relationship is to give and extend, the person in question is an energy drain that you can block or, at the very least, pause for a while.
6. Stop fixating on social networks
Social networks are not an accurate representation of what real life is like. If you’re constantly comparing yourself to other moms and feel like you have to strive to keep up with their seemingly perfect lives, it’s time to disengage.
7. Get moving
You may feel tired and listless, but you’ll feel surprisingly rejuvenated when you start moving your muscles a little.
Go for a walk, or a jog, and get your muscles moving. The fresh air and use of energy will refresh you and give you a healthier, happier outlook.
Just being alone and moving will do wonders for you, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally too.
8. Get back to good eating and sleeping habits
Moms the world over seem to share some universal sacrifices, and unfortunately, it seems to be in the areas of sleep and eating habits.
Moms are notorious for not getting enough sleep and being exhausted. It’s not enough to eat in front of your laptop or snack on the counter while preparing everyone else’s meals.
Take back control by making sure you take care of yourself with proper eating and sleeping habits.
9. Restore your social life
This is also the time to reconnect with your friends! Having a strong social network is an important part of getting your personal life back on track.
Surround yourself with positive friends who encourage and support you, and of course, who can show you a good time.
Laughing and talking with your friends is a key element in regaining full self-awareness.
10. Treat yourself alone
Pleasing yourself alone is as important as anything else.
It’s very important for the soul to spend quiet, peaceful moments with its thoughts and enjoy a little serenity.
Whether you’re relaxing in a bathtub, watching a show with a glass of wine or throwing yourself into a book, it’s important to be alone and indulge in something you enjoy.
