We are all born innocent babies who eventually start growing, learning, and developing personalities.
Life prepares us for its obstacles and we usually know how to handle them. However, some of us spiritually never grow up and never reach that form of maturity.
‘Spiritual babies‘ are people who are usually very immature and they seem like a child trapped in an adult body.
This does not mean we should not cherish our inner child, but being completely naive and childish when real-life problems hit us is never good.
We are beings who should grow spiritually and keep exploring ourselves. Striving to be a better version of yourself is how you grow and become a higher form of a human.
Some people do not realize this and we may find them a bit irritable and spoiled.
Signs Of A Spiritual Baby
Here are several signs you or someone you know may be a spiritual baby.
1. Not Being In Tune With Your Spirit
When we follow our inner voice and the gut feeling that guides us, they usually end up teaching us valuable lessons.
If you are not in tune with your spiritual self, you may feel lost and confused. This also means that you are naive to what others expect from you, and you do not follow your own ambitions and dreams.
A person who spiritually develops has a stronger character, and they never need others’ approval for their actions or the way they live life.
Praying, meditation, and introspection will strengthen your bond with your spiritual side and make you stronger.
2. Spiritual Consumerism Has Trapped You
Consumerism is all around us, wherever we look. It is on TV, on billboards, on our phones, and on computers.
Buying excessively and being a slave to consumerism means that you are still spiritually undeveloped. People who are spiritually evolved know that materialistic stuff does not make us happy in the long term.
Now, this does not mean you should not buy things you like or need – buying necessary things or something that really makes you happy is always good for the soul, but being excessive is not okay.
If you have ten pairs of black shoes, you probably do not need three more.
Think about your space and clutter you make with excessive stuff – it is not good for you.
3. You Are Easily Offended
If you find yourself easily offended when others talk about their opinions on things, it is a sign that you might be a spiritual baby.
How so, you may ask. Well, spiritually evolved persons realize that not everyone will agree with you or share the same experiences and opinions.
However, we need to respect the differences and not impose our opinions onto others as they may not understand them at first.
Also, not everyone is on the same spiritual or psychological path, so arguing with someone who offended your opinions is pointless.
If people offend you often, try to ask yourself – is it them or is it you?
4. You Are Jealous Of Others
If you often envy your friends or family, it may be another sign that you are a spiritual baby.
Being jealous of others’ successes is rooted in your own insecurities which you have not accepted.
People who are spiritually mature often celebrate the successes of others as they motivate and inspire them.
They do not see others as competition – but rather as motivation.
If you feel that you need to compare yourself with others and that you always need to be the best at everything – it is a sign of immaturity.
Work on yourself and your confidence and try to make your past self the only person you compete with.
5. You Talk But Do Not Deliver
Oftentimes, we talk about how we will start a business, start living healthier, begin exercising, or work on our spirituality.
We build up the expectation and then we never do it. This means that you want to do these things but you simply cannot stick to plans or stay motivated enough.
Spiritual babies are known to not stay truthful to their words as they do not find them important.
But it is exactly what you should work on – the promise to yourself.
6. You Are Selfish
People who have not grown spiritually often do not think how their actions can hurt others.
They do things selfishly and only give attention to what serves them.
I remember having a friend who would always be late when we agreed to meet and there would always be some lame excuses she would make up.
Not being respectful of other people’s time and feelings makes one very immature.
Later, when she started working better jobs, meditated and prayed, and when she started seeing the world differently, she was never late again and always made sure to respect my time.
Growing up is not a selfish act, it is an act that helps you and those around you.
7. You Are Not Generous
Generosity is a virtue of people who are not selfish and who do not put too much significance on materialistic things.
Sharing things, knowledge, compassion, and love takes a lot of sacrifice but can be very rewarding as well.
If you do not like sharing things with others, you may need to work on your ability to open up and see others as your equals.
You are not your things and possessions, you are how you make others feel.
8. You Cannot Take Criticism
Spiritual babies usually think they are always right and that criticism always comes from a bad place.
They hardly accept criticism at work or in relationships, and always think others are trying to ruin their self-esteem.
Realizing you are not perfect and that you will not be perfect to everyone is a liberating thought that you should work on.
Criticism sometimes comes from a good place and you should not hate people who criticize you from time to time.
Try to learn from it and do not dwell on it too much. Of course, there will be instances where you know it is unfounded, and when you are spiritually strong, you will learn to know the difference.
