15 Baby Food Recipes: How To Make Baby Food at Home!

Being a first-time parent is never easy. There are so many rules to follow, everyone piping in with what you should and shouldn’t do.

You think you’re practically an expert on everything from breast milk to discipline techniques, but there will always be something waiting around the corner.

Everyone will want to pipe in with their own ideas and advice, but every child is different and something that worked for them maybe won’t work for your child!

The first food your child should taste is breast milk and if that isn’t possible, bottle-feeding and formulas are good substitutions!

However, after a few months, you’ll want your child to start eating solid foods.

Let’s take a look at some of the recipes you can make at home at a fraction of the price, yet they’re still yummy and healthier than anything bought at stores!

What You’ll Need

Making baby food at home is easy and doesn’t take up much time.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A food processor or blender – it’ll just make your life easier.
  • Ice cube trays – this is a great hack for working parents, simply just make a batch of baby food and freeze it for later!
  • Cooker – we all have a cooker, it’s not an unattainable thing!

Introducing New Food

Babies are naturally inquisitive so they’ll probably try anything you give them, but it’s important not to rush anything.

This is a new thing for them, so smelling or looking at new food is probably enough for now, just take it easy from day to day!

Especially be aware of foods that may cause allergies like eggs, fish, and peanuts!

Also, when freezing baby food, never freeze it when it contains milk or formula. If your intent is to make batches of baby food, then do so with water!

Homemade Baby Food Recipes!

1. Sweet Potato Puree

Ingredients:

  • 1 small sweet potato
  • a bit of milk (formula or breast milk)

You need to peel the sweet potato and cut it up into small pieces. Cook it in a pot of boiling water for 15 minutes. Add it to a food processor along with the milk and blend it.

That’s it! The baby food is ready!

2. Veggie Puree

For this one, you can really use any type of veggies, but let me give you some inspiration:

  • 1 small carrot
  • 1 small potato
  • 1 slice of butternut squash

Boil all the veggies for 20 minutes and check if they’re soft. Add them to a blender or just smash them with a fork until it reaches a smooth consistency.

3. Broccoli Puree

Ingredients:

  • 4 broccoli florets
  • a bit of olive oil

Boil the broccoli until soft, around 15 minutes. Add to a blender with the olive oil and puree it.

And that’s about it!

4. Celery Soup

Ingredients:

  • half a cup of celery
  • 1 small sweet potato
  • a bit of olive oil
  • 3 cups of water

Chop the celery as thin as you can and chop up the sweet potato. Put them in a pan and add the olive oil and water. Cook for 20 minutes until the water barely covers the vegetables.

Transfer your soup to a processor or blender and go at it until it reaches a silky consistency.

And there you have it! A healthy well-rounded soup for your little one!

5. Chicken, Broccoli and Carrot Puree

Ingredients:

  • 50g chicken breast, cleaned
  • 5 broccoli florets
  • 1 carrot
  • half a cup of breast milk or formula

Finely chop the chicken into tiny pieces and transfer it into a pan with water and cook for about 10 minutes. While the chicken cooks, chop up the veggies and boil them for about 10 minutes.

When it’s all cooked, transfer to a processor with the milk or formula and blend away!

This is a great way to add meat to your baby’s diet!

6. Turkey, Rice and Carrot Puree

Chop the turkey breast into small pieces and cook it in water that barely covers the meat, approximately for 20 minutes.

Add rice cereal to the cooked turkey breast and cook for 3 more minutes. When cooked add the food to the food processor and blend away!

You may even add a peach, mango, or papaya to the mix! Just let it sit in the cooked turkey and rice cereal and blend afterward!

7. Beef Puree

  • 2 carrots
  • 1 zucchini
  • 1 cup of ground beef
  • 1 cup of water

Cook the ground beef in boiling water until it turns brown. Add veggies to a saucepan along with the meat and cook it over high heat.

After 3 minutes, lower the heat and cook for another 7 minutes. If the mixture gets too solid add more water.

Ingredients:

  • half a cup of rice
  • 1 can of coconut milk
  • half a cup of blueberries

In a saucepan, combine the rice and coconut milk and 1/4 cup of water. Bring the rice to a boil over medium-high heat and then cover it and let it simmer over low heat.

Cook for 20 minutes until the rice is soft and set it aside for 10 minutes with the lid on.

In another saucepan let the berries simmer until they’re soft. Once cooked, mash them up!

Once all of this is cooled combine the rice and blueberries and there you have it!

After that, take down the heat and let simmer for about 30 minutes. Add the baby spinach until you can see that the leaves have shrunk.

Depending on the age, you can leave the soup as is or you can transfer it to a blender and blend until smooth! Serve after the soup has cooled down.
