12 Tips on How to “Trick” Your Child to Fall Asleep Easier and Faster

Parents who have never experienced problems putting a small child to sleep are rare

Most parents find their hair standing up when it is bedtime, whether it is a newborn or a one-year-old baby. Babies are nervous, they don’t know how to calm themselves. The older ones would play all night.

If you are in such a situation, try some of these tricks to put the children to sleep.

1. Comfortable Bed and Room

This is a significant factor. Keep the bed comfortable and nicely furnished, while the room is slightly darkened.

It is especially important in the summer months when there is light outside at bedtime, so it is unusual for children to sleep.

Therefore, watch out for noise in the house at this time, because when a child enters the light sleep phase, anything can wake him up.  Also, make sure that the room is warm enough.

2. Day-Time Sleep

Children need daytime sleep, so expelling it too early can hurt falling asleep in the evening.

If the child is too tired in the evening, adrenaline is activated and then it is more difficult to put him to sleep.

3. Light Meal Before Bed

Some children may need a light meal before bed if dinner is early.

A cup of warm milk or cocoa is enough, although it is better to avoid sugar at later hours.

On the other side, you need to pay attention and make sure that the child doesn’t get into a habit of falling asleep with the bottle. It can become a problem in the future.

4. Calm Your Child Before Bed Time

If you want your toddler to be calm when you put him to bed, you have to gradually calm him down during the evening.

A child is not a robot, so he can’t switch off on his own when it is time to sleep.

So, slow down the pace and thus prepare your child for sleep.

5. Form a Routine

Form a routine and always stick to the same one when it is time for bed.

For example, if going to bed starts with washing and changing clothes, always keep it so that your child knows it is time to sleep.

6. Nature Sounds

You simply must try this. Just try not to fall asleep before the baby.

Play the quiet sounds of nature such as rain from the rainforest, ocean waves, or the gentle chirping of birds.

This amazing trick will create a soothing atmosphere that mimics the sound the sounds of nature and promotes relaxation

7. Fragrance Bedding

We all know that fragrances are not just fragrances.

Some fragrances, such as lavender or chamomile, are associated with relaxation.

So, drizzle a few drops of a soothing essential oil on your child’s bedding. These fragrances can help create a soothing environment conducive to sleep.

Also, you can drip your bedding and treat yourself to a mini spa experience.

8. Lullaby

The lullabies are old, common, and classic methods for putting children to sleep. Children love attention, so for a lullaby, you also have to take time for them.

That’s actually what they’re looking for.

9. Telling a Story to Your Child

Prepare your child for sleep by telling a story. If you do this before, your child will be mentally ready for sleep and will more easily accept the fact that it’s time for bed.

10. Cosmic Effect

Get a small projector or glow-in-the-dark stickers to create a soothing cosmic sight on the ceiling in your child’s room. Also, display stars, planets, and constellations to create a relaxing environment.

It will capture your child’s imagination and help them fall asleep more easily.

11. Vacuum Cleaner or Hair Dryer Sound

Turn on the vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, or fan…

It sounds incredible, but babies fall asleep with ease with the sound of these devices.

But as soon as the baby falls asleep, turn off the device so that you don’t get used to sleeping exclusively with the sound of a vacuum cleaner or fan.

The baby will enjoy it, but you certainly will not get enough sleep.

12. Don’t Overheat the Room

A lot of parents are afraid that a small child will catch a cold if they sleep in a cold room, so they sometimes heat the bedroom so much that it is difficult to breathe in it.

That’s completely wrong.

Body temperature drops during sleep, so we don’t need a room that is too warm to sleep easily. Due to the heat, babies are nervous, sweat, and wake up all the time.

Therefore, do not overdo it with heating.
